No words

SO Frustrated.

Very Very Frustrated

The kids dropped my external hard drive.  It would not read.  The connections seemed bent, so I decided to wait it out and take it in after Christmas. Tried to catch up on blogging, but Blogger would only let me upload one picture at a time.  An upload I was doing to Flickr failed.    Then the Laptop died.   Took them both in.

Both are gone.

10 years of stored pictures.

Everything that is blogged is saved, maybe not at 100%, but saved.

Christmas and my last couple jobs are still on various cards.

Everything else??  GONE.

Pictures, Kevin's grad school essay, templates, actions, Pictures!!

UGHHHHHHHHHHHH

Data recovery is an option we will explore when we have house stuff settled.  The laptop is a maybe, the dropped hard drive??  Most likely toast.  Of course that is the one with the oldest pictures on it.  Stuff that has not been blogged, or uploaded to other places to send prints.

KICKING MYSELF

NEVER in a million years would I have thought that they would both be gone.

I know I have some stuff on assorted disks in assorted places.  If you have one, could you copy it and send it to me? I'll gladly reimburse shipping.

And if you know the name of a great data recovery place that would be awesome.

***As a reminder to everyone.. make a disk today.  Not everything, that seems too overwhelming.  Make a disk, A disk, one week, one month, a bunch of random favorites, something.***

  1. Oh Melissa!!!!!
I am in the same boat but mine are videos and only 2 years worth. Mine was a dropped hard drive too, also by children. Why do we have them again? Just kidding. I am so sorry for your loss. I had a good crying freaking out day where I was mad at everything and nothing made me happy. It took a while to realize that it really wasn't the end of the world and I still have these people in my life with me, I just don't have the video of the day we brought them home from the hospital.

I am holding onto my hard drive in hopes that some day I will get rich and will be able to spend $3000 on the off chance that they might be able to recover it. Good luck and I hope you can find something to smile about.

    Love you!!!!!

  2. Oh, Melissa, I'm so sorry! I have the discs you sent me of 4th of July 2008, and I'll make you some discs of family events from the last few years. At least you're helping to remind everyone else to back up their pictures on CD so this doesn't happen to them; I definitely appreciate the reminder!

  3. Thanks Tiff! somehow it does help that it is not just me that this has happed to. I had a long talk with the kids and explaind to them what they lost through thier carelessness. It seemed to make an effect, I hope it sticks.

$3000?!? yikes! I was told $500x2 for both drives. Maybe the diff in photo and video? Same as you though I am holding on to them and hoping to get them done someday.

Jana, thank you so much! It is disks like that out there that are saving my sanity. I think I can recreate a library of most of the best ones through disks I've sent/left at relatives, through old emails, blogger files and what not. There will be gaps though... :(

  5. I'm so sorry your lost so many photos, but impressed that you still have 4 children. ;) I assume the professional pictures are the least of your worries at this point, but if you want copies of ours for some reason, let me know.

  6. The $3000 is to send it to a company a few states over or so where they would take my hard drive into what they call a "clean room". It's like they are doing surgery on our electronics.

    I love/hate technology!
